Jenkins agreed to make way for new Brewer Carlos Lee, who has averaged 27 home runs and 94 RBIs over the past five seasons and could be the right-handed, middle-of-the-order slugger the Brewers were missing last season.
"In a way, it might be a little fun," Jenkins said of his defensive move. "I won't call it a new start, but you're always looking to show people you can do different things.
"At the same time, if it makes Carlos more comfortable, so be it. If he's going to be more comfortable because he's out there every day playing left, go ahead."
The Lee trade shook up Milwaukee's outfield. General manager Doug Melvin sent center fielder Scott Podsednik and reliever Luis Vizcaino to the White Sox to land their new left fielder. Brady Clark, a superior defender with a high on-base rate, is the favorite to take over Podsednik's leadoff and center field spots.
